Series: Spartacus

Spartacus

The TV series Spartacus is set in ancient Rome. We  follow a Thracian (whose real name remains unknown), that has been taken away from his homeland and brought to Rome to be executed in the arena as a gladiator by Glaber, a Roman Praetor. Spartacus survives the execution and kills his executers. The Romans soon recognise his potential and decide that Spartacus will make a good addition to the Gladiators. Explicit sex and graphic violence is found in this series, I recommend those of a more mature audience to watch this.

Religion and race also have a part to play in this series. Many of the slaves that have been captured from the Romans come from all parts of the world, from Syrians, Egyptians and Thracians. There is a theme of religion throughout, and many characters make reference to whether or not the gods are "in their favour", they also mention the afterlife a lot, and how they shall meet if they die.

I personally enjoy the explicit sex and the graphic violence, I feel that it adds to how the Romans lived as a lot of what they did revolved around these two points. The fact that the crowd  cheer for death while people fight in the arena for their pleasure adds to the sense that the Romans have a sick sense of morality. The fighting scenes are brutal and exciting to watch, the decapitations seem to never get old and the fights finish with a satisfying end. There is random meaningless sex in Spartacus, however love also plays a big part. Spartacus' wife which has been serparated from him feuls his hate for the Romans, (SLIGHT SPOILER HERE) for example Animais  and Gannicus, both close friends, separated for the love of of Animais's dead wife. (SPOILER END)

However, due to the frequent deaths in Spartacus, there isn't much character development. It seems like a lot of the time you meet a new character and within two episodes he no longer has a head, they do manage to keep the main characters alive long enough for you to establish a connection though. Characters and also seem a bit shallow with their personality, but yet again, the main characters have great personalities, such as Ashur the Syrian Serpant and Ilithyia, the wife of the Praetor Glaber.

All in all I will say Spartacus is a great watch, each season is very different to the other, making sure you don't get bored. The first season, Spartacus: Blood and Sand can be compared to the move Gladiator, while the second (Spartacus: Vengeance) and the third (Spartacus: War of the Damned) can be compared to 300. Note that the actor for Blood and Sand, Andy Whitfield is replaced by Liam McIntyre as Andy sadly passed away from cancer. It took some time for me to get used to the new actor but I think he plays the part well, but I still think that Andy was a better Spartacus. I give Spartacus an 8.5/10, a must watch in my opinion.

RATING: 8.5/10

Far Cry 3 Review

Background

Far Cry 3 starts of with a group of spoiled westernised friends basically having a great time on an island, however things take a turn for the worse and the protagonist, Jason Brody and his friends get captured by pirates and are about to be sold for ransom. Eventually Jason escapes and his quest to rescue his friends begin.

Graphics

Far Cry 3 looks beautiful especially if you're on the PC. The console version don't share the same standard of graphics as the PC version, as they are incapable to do so, however the console version still looks as pretty as ever. I'd recommend you watch some youtube videos to check out the graphics. However there are a few bugs sometimes within the game, but it's natural to happen with any open world sandbox game, none of the bugs I've experienced have ruined my experience playing Far Cry 3.

Gameplay

I'm not sure on where to start with this.

Well lets start with the nature and wildlife of the island. Far cry 3 has plants which you can harvest and animals, which can be carnivores that want to eat you or just herbivores you can kill and skin all types of animals found on this island (you can't skin chickens though but who needs to anyway). Also unlike many games, harvesting and hunting is actually very useful and rewarding! Getting animal skins helps you do have a bigger back back, hold more ammo, carry more money ect, and harvesting plants can give you stimpacks, an injection that will make you more wildlife friendly, be able to hold your breath underwater for longer and much more. There is quite a few ammount of weapons, which you can customise, giving them things like red dot site, extended mags, those kind of things, you can also give your weapon its own paint job. Finally there is a few vehicles which you can use in Far Cry 3, however there are no air vehicles which you can control (you do go in a helicopter/aeroplane a few times in the mission but you don't control it), but there are still boats and cars. There are some other ways to travel above land which have hardly been used in other games and is a welcome addition, these includes things such as the wing suit which helps you glide (it's hard to find a  screenshot of it because you can't acutally see it) you're parachute, both of these can be deployed at any time. Finally there is a hang glider which is pretty fun.
A Hang Glider in Far Cry 3.

The combat and action in Far Cry 3 is just amazing. Some missions had me literally feeling like James Bond on an hostile island and had my heart pumping as I just managed to escape the hordes of enemies after blowing up a bridge, jumping off a cliff, deploying my wing suit  deploying my parachute, then taking a dive down a waterfall and emerging onto land quickly jumping in my getaway car, it was awesome! Check out this mission from Far Cry 3 where you get to burn weed and enemies with a flame thrower while Skrillex is playing! However the storyline isn't too emerging, but it's still good and is enough to drive you on. The first enemy you face, Vaas is one of the best video game villains this decade, in my opinion, many others thing so too, the later villain, is meh, but sitll quite interesting.

There is also an aspect of stealth and park-our in Far Cry 3. You can choose to go through a mission or outpost (outposts are places which you can take over and have your tribe run, kind of like how gangs owned places in San Andreas) silently taking out all the enemies one by one or you can run in guns all blazing. You will have to climb up radio towers to reveal a piece of the map, similar to syncing in Assassin's Creed. As you progress further in the map, the harder it becomes to climb up these radio towers and it stars to become a kind of puzzle.

My Personal Opinion

Personally I think Far Cry 3 is one of the best games to come out of 2012 and was not expected to be this fun. If you're looking for an open world game with many things to do, a good story and a decently sized map, Far Cry 3 is for you! I enjoyed this game quite a lot, even though the story only took me about 9 hours to complete, I still think it was worth my money. I give Far Cry 3 an 8.5/10, note that I'm not like IGN and give any good game a 9 or 10, I don't actually think a 10/10 game exists, every game has its flaws.

Far Cry 3 8.5/10! A must buy!

Gaming Update

I'm currently playing through Far Cry 3 and going to make a review on it as soon as I'm finish playing it, for now though all I will say is that it's amazing! There's guns, bows, stealth, animals, vehicles, poker and so much more to do in this game! Also Vaas is one hell of a foe, there's something quite likeable about him, personally he's one of my favourite gaming villains. I like to think of Far Cry 3 as an Uncharted RPG that's in the first person, other reviewers have also compared it to Skyrim with guns. Well, before I get too carried away I should end it here and write the complete review once I've completed the game, see you later!

Teaching You Chemistry 1

Teaching You Chemistry

I am currently studying Chemistry at A-Levels and I wish to share what I learn with you, after all it is said that teaching other people is a good way of revising, so it benefits both me and you. I will start with the basics and work up from there.

The Atom

Atoms are what all elements and compounds are made out of, they are very small and cannot be seen with the naked eye. Atoms are made up of 3 types of particles which are the protons, neutrons and electrons, the proton and neutron make the nucleus of an atom.

Electrons:

Electrons have a -1 (negative) charge and the whizz around the nucleus in orbitals (circles), these orbitals make if for most of the volume of the atom.

Nucleus:

The majority of the mass of the atom is concentrated in the nucleus. The diameter of the nucleus rather small compared to the whole atom, inside the nucleus is where you can find protons and neutrons.

Protons have a relative mass of 1 and a relative charge of +1
Neutrons have a relative mass of 1 and a relative charge of 0 (no charge)

Nuclear Symbols show numbers of Subatomic Particals

The mass number tells you the number of protons and neutrons that are in the nucleus,
The atomic or proton number tells you the number of protons in the nucleus
You can work out he number of neutrons in the nucleus by taking away the mass number from the atomic number (mass number-atomic number= neutron number). In this case 4-2=2, the neutron number is 2.

Why does time seem to fly by as we get older?

Why does time seem to fly by as we get older?

When you think back to your childhood or adolescent years, time seemed to pass a lot more slower than it does now, but why? Why did say, the first 10 years of our life seem so long while going from ages 30 to 40 seem to happen so quickly? Well people have looked into this, they managed to come to the conclusion. When you're 1 year old, that 1 year has been 100% of your life, when you've reached your 2nd birthday that year was a half of your life, when you're 3 years old that year was 1/3 of your life and when you're 40 years old 1 year is only 1/40 of your life, so it could be said that you become kind of adapted, but you could say that theory isn't very reliable. However, when something novel, something great or big happens in your life you tend to remember it, and as you look back on memories, you change something, its the reason why two different witnesses can give different feedbacks about a crime they saw being committed (not taking the fact that one is lying into account). It's been found that when something big happens in your life, like your first kiss. When you think back upon these memories within your first 10 years it feels longer because there's so much more to remember. So this means the more you do with your life, the more people you meet, the more places you see, generally the more big and exciting things you do in your life, the slower time will seem to pass, so get out there and live your life!

Should you walk or run in the rain?

Should you walk or run in the rain?

Say it's a rainy day and you want to stay as dry as possible, should you walk in the rain or run in the rain? Walking in the rain would mean that you are travelling slower to your destination, meaning that more rain drops will hit you, so you should run, right? However running in the rain basically means you're just running into the rain anyway, you're not escaping any rain. If you move out of the way of one rain drop, you move into the way of another, so the number of rain drops hitting you is constant no matter your speed. If you don't understand this properly let me explain this better, if you think of rain as something that stays still in the air, it doesn't matter if you walk into that rain or run into that rain, you're still getting into it. If you don't actually go anywhere, and stay still, you will be drier than if you run/walk because rain is only hitting you from the top while if you walk or run rain is also hitting you from the side. Now there's the time factor, if you want to get to one point to another then the time factor comes into play, its a known fact that the longer you stay in the rain, the wetter you will get. Walking in the rain and running in the rain does mean you will get the same amount of rain drops on you, however the longer you stay in the rain, the wetter you get, therefore running will decrease the amount of time in the rain thus meaning less raindrops than walking.

TLDR? RUN IN THE RAIN
